B. ALLOCATION PROPOSAL
SCIENCE EDUCATION, 12652
1. Purpose
To accommodate an increase in high school science courses due to the Board of Education's action to increase the graduation requirements to include an additional credit in Science.
2. Rationale for Allocation
Other Current Expenses. $193,600 is being allocated to high schools based on per capita enrollment, including special education students and public charter schools, in grades 9-12 for the purchase of laboratory supplies. The enrollment figures are based on the Department's 2002-03 Projected Enrollment.
$4,086 is deferred for New Century Charter Schools.
3. Guidelines for Implementation
These funds are to be used to provide additional laboratory supplies to accommodate the increase in enrollment in high school science courses due to the increase in graduation credit requirements.
High Schools are advised to develop a plan for assessing and prioritizing school-level needs, and for establishing purchase and distribution procedures. Due consideration should be given to purchases supporting science laboratory activities which enable students to meet State Science Content Standards (HCPS II).
All purchases should supplement and not supplant existing funding for science laboratory supplies. Should basic science laboratory needs be met, then funds may be used to purchase laboratory supplies for courses that are science-equivalent or purchase mathematics manipulatives.
Funds are to be expended in accordance with the guidelines found in the "FMS User Policy and Process Flow Guide," personnel rules and regulations, and procurement law.
